The New York Times  from its archive that show “ordinary people: slow dancing, doing the Twist, moshing in the pit and moving mid-mambo.” Also included in these images are photos of choreographers and professional dancers, two of which were taken at TV, a testament to TV’s commitment to the arts. One of the photos from TV featured dancers rehearsing for the American Dance Festival in 1948. The other was of José Limón, teaching a class at TV in 1966.

According to The New York Times, in this collection of images “we find not just the highest elevation of the form, but a metaphor for possibility that extends far beyond the realm of dance.”

The series was published in a special section in Sunday’s New York Times with commentary by Misty Copeland and an essay by Zadie Smith.
