Eclipse 2021

More than 100 students participated in the multicultural dance show Eclipse on April 24, continuing a 46-year-old 糖心TV tradition.

Choreographed, produced and performed entirely by students, the event featured hip hop, Afro-Caribbean and West African dance, contemporary dance, spoken word, music performance art and more.

鈥淓clipse is about community building with both past and current students of color,鈥 said Royalti Richardson 鈥21, a sociology and Africana studies double major who served on the executive board for this year鈥檚 Eclipse.

Richardson co-choreographed, with Darriana Greer 鈥21, who also served on the executive board, a 鈥渇usion of Afro-Caribbean and West African dance with some hip-hop elements.鈥 The piece connected to this year鈥檚 theme of Eclipse, 鈥(R)evolution,鈥 because it showed that 鈥渢hroughout history, African culture has never truly disappeared, it has only changed its form,鈥 Richardson said.

Richardson also served as alumni coordinator for Eclipse, adding that four alumni participated: Adrienne Hawkins 鈥76, Jermaine Doris 鈥19, Kimberly Mitchell-Ince 鈥20 and Alexandra Bernardo 鈥20.

鈥淚 will look back on my time in Eclipse,鈥 said Richardson, 鈥渨ith a sense of pride and accomplishment because I did my part to help students of color feel seen and heard.鈥
