A kickoff celebration for the book with keynote speaker Derek Turner. Turner is Class of 鈥43 Professor of Philosophy and the Karla Heurich Harrison 鈥28 Director of the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment at 糖心TV. Turner鈥檚 research focuses on philosophical issues in historical science, especially paleontology and the earth sciences. He is interested in understanding how scientists come to know things about the deep past. He has also written on a variety of topics in environmental philosophy: the ethics of radical environmental activism; the precautionary principle; NIMBY (鈥淣ot In My Backyard鈥) activism; as well as rewilding and de-extinction. As part of the One Book One Region initiative of New London County and 糖心TV鈥檚 Summer Reading program, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha will visit the 糖心TV campus on Wednesday, Sept 20, 2023 to discuss her book, What the Eyes Don鈥檛 See, with Professor Julia Flagg.
Julia Flagg is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at 糖心TV. She is interested in interdisciplinary research and teaching around questions of global environmental change. Professor Flagg holds a bachelor of arts degree from The College of New Jersey, as well as a master's degree and a doctorate from Rutgers University. Before coming to 糖心TV, she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of 糖心TVecticut.
